Pose like a Pelican

Pelicans are a characterised by a long beak and a large throat pouch used for catching prey and draining water from the scooped-up contents before swallowing.

There are 8 different living pelican species. You can find them ranging latitudinally from the tropics to the temperate zone, though they are absent from interior South America and from polar regions and the open ocean.

Prey of the Pelican

This one just caught his dinner.

The diet of pelicans usually consists of fish. The size of the preferred prey fish varies depending on pelican species and location.

But did you know that occasionally they also eat amphibians, turtles, crustaceans, insects, birds, and mammals?

Plight of the Pelican

I am currently doing a study of pelicans for an image making course I am doing. After months of absence from drawing I am getting into it again. That means you can expect more pelicans.

This pelican is hungry.

Flight of the Pelican

The last couple of months just flew by. As they say, time flies when you are having fun and things are all over the place.

After spending the last 4 months enjoying life in Greece and Switzerland due to multiple flight cancellations, I am finally back on the island. As drawing came rather short the last months I am eager to take it up again.

One of the fondest memories of recent years is when we were watching pelicans surfing the waves of the Pacific Ocean in Guatemala. It looked like they where having a blast!

Day 25 – Shades of Pink #WorldWatercolorMonth

Day 25 of #WorldWatercolorMonth – Shades of Pink. I am behind because we are having a long weekend here in Iceland and I am actually camping! This only happens once a year. I do not like to be out in the cold…

Ever entered a hotel and where like WTF or OMG when did they last renovate this place? This pink setting is not the worst I can imagine though. With a pink cocktail it might actually be quite pleasant. Somehow I have Welcome to the Hotel California stuck in my head.

Chasing Pigeons

This little girl had fun going through a crowed of pigeons over and over again, causing havoc. She certainly seemed to enjoy herself.

I sat on a bench just opposite of it, enjoying the March sun in Athens. I thought it was quite warm already, but all the locals were pretty much still out in proper winter gear.

My Sunny Island

Winter hasn´t fully started yet, and I am already in dire need of some sun!

I took out my other sketch book last night, which I haven´t used for the last months, and this  is what I discovered! Bam, it made me happy. I miss summer!

Check out the rest of my aerial themed watercolour drawings right here.

Flamingos

Yes, flamingos! Jenna Gee aka The Sunshine Artist suggested me to draw flamingos, so I decided to have fun with flamingos as you can see.

I have about 20 pages left in my sketchbook which I would like to fill with aerial themed illustrations.

Any other prompt suggestions? Leave it in the comments.

Clouds in the Sky

I love how this one turned out! What do you think?

Inspired by the prompt for #WorldWatercolorMonth – Clouds in the Sky.

First time I also used masking fluid. Made coloring in the background so much easier. Will definitely use it again.

I also finally went back to hoop class last night after several months break due to injury. It was great. It was like I never took a break except for being so tired afterwards that I went straight to bed. But hanging upside down in the air is the best!
