Mystery Blogger Award

I just got nominated for the Mystery Blogger Award by Josh – The Jaguar – for the second time! And I did not even get around to acknowledge the first time. So here it goes. Thank you so much! I really appreciate it and it nice to see that someone appreciates my drawings.
Go and check out his blog The Jaguar and its allies. I learned a lot about jaguars in Belize which I had no idea were there, when I visited the country.

The award was originally created by Okoto Enigma and is

…an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging and they do it with so much love and passion.

The Mystery Blogger Award comes with some rules. They are:

  • Thank whoever nominated you and include a link to their blog.
  • Tell your readers 3 things about yourself.
  • Answer the questions from the person who nominated you.
  • Nominate 10-20 bloggers you feel deserve the award.
  • Ask your nominees 5 questions of your choice with one weird or funny one.
  • Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog.

Three Things About Me

  1. I am (almost) always late. It´s just the person I am. No other excuses. That´s why I am answering here to the first nomination by Josh, and after a month of procrastination I will get to the second one.
  2. I go to bed way too late for no apparent reason.
  3. I love cheese.

The answers to Josh´ questions

  • If you could take a free class on any topic, what would it be?

Spanish lessons. I want to learn more.

  • What is your favorite book?

Too many to narrow it down to one. But anything by Paul Auster and Herman Hesse.

  • Do you have a specific place you like to go when you need to think? If so, where?

Not really. But I think I tend to get ideas when exercising or lying lazily on the couch.

  • Imagine you’ve been commissioned to write any book you want. What kind of book would you write (e.g. fantasy, horror, memoir, nonfiction, etc.)?

Fantasy. There will be dragons and wizards! And a dog.

  • Funny/weird question: If you had to survive in one of the following inhospitable locations, which would you choose?
    1. The arctic
    2. The Kalahari Desert
    3. The Amazon rain forest
    4. Detroit

I already live just below the arctic circle in an inhospitable place. So am not sure I want to move to another one. But maybe the rain forest might be a nice change.

I imagine it like this

I was asked again last year by one of the editors of the 14 Magazin, a magazine from Freiburg in southern Germany, if I like to do a couple of illustrations for two of his articles. Of course I said yes.

The magazine was published a few months ago but I only got my hands on a copy now.

First article is about the revival of vintage clothing and how it came back in style among 20+ somethings.

Second article which I quite enjoyed is about the pros and cons of watching TV vs online streaming. It argues that TV definitely has a surprise factor as you sometimes end up watching things that you would normally not watch. Also it provides a different viewing experience because you have to commit to a certain time if you want to watch something you are interested in.

Online streaming services are the opposite. Available any time and day, instant satisfaction is given. However, the tendency to binge watch is relatively high which might make us consume more than originally intended. Also the surprise factor is taken away as we usually choose what we want to see, therefore you might never get to watch that documentary about the Swiss rail way system that would have aired on your one TV channel at the time.

I also think that online streaming is more time consuming. Sometimes I can spend an hour going through the endless list of movies until I decide which one to watch. And I can definitely relate to the risk of addiction…  “Just one more episode of xyz and then I will go to sleep….. damn how come I have to get up in 4 hours already!?!?” But who hasn´t?

Check out these lovely business cards! A friend of mine asked me if  I would like to help her to illustrate her new business page. Of course I said yes. The cards are the latest result of our little collaboration.

Exhibition in Reykjavík

Yes, all the works I’ve been painting in June like a mad woman I just put up at this small gallery space in downtown Reykjavik.

The exhibition is titled “What animal are you?”

So if you are around and feel like dropping by you are more than welcome.

The paintings will be on display at Kingdom Withing Tattoo Studio and Gallery, Skólavörðustígur 24, 101 Reykjavík  from September 1st to September 23.

Opening times are Mo – Fr, 10 – 5pm.

See you there!

More work in progress…

I’ve been busy painting like crazy the last few weeks. So far there are 8 new paintings, but only 4 of them finished and still a few to go before I take off for the summer.

There’ll be an exhibition opening on September 1st in Reykjavík with hopefully all of my finished paintings ^^ Below is one of the works (that I finished in the meantime) in progress…

What do you think?

A picture of me was to be found on the front page of a German local paper followed by a brief article about me, my paintings, my travels, and ongoing exhibition on page 2!

Apparently they are going to bring another similar article next week. I’ll keep you posted about that. Meanwhile have a look at this one ^^

Exhibition 2

Me and my ongoing exhibition have been in the local newspaper last week. Apparently an interview will follow soon!

Go and visit it if you happen to be in the area -> 88348 Bad Saulgau, Germany

Next exhibition coming up!

Some of my paintings, old and new ones, will be on display at the end of this month. Ongoing exhibition starting at the last week of June until the end of the year! Sweet ^^

I took part in the Dawanda Design competition and my wallpaper was among those to be picked and soon to be put up on the wall in one of the rooms at the Meininger Hotel on Berlin!

The place of the hotel is the location of the former house of Alexander von Humboldt, a German naturalist and explorer. The Meininger Hotel is inspired by Humboldt with each of the rooms and wallpapers relating to a quotation by him. The one I picked was:
Ich glaube meinerseits, dass man noch größeren Entdeckungen dann immer sehr nahe ist, wenn die Tatsachen in einen scheinbaren Widerstreit treten.
An Julius Schmidt, Berlin, 30. März 1850
All designs to be found on Dawanda.Mine is the one by Lumikukka or you find it in the gallery for Artworks 2011 ^^

Opening of the Hotel will be on June 19th, 2011with a Dawanda Design market from 10 – 6 p.m.

Address: Meininger Hotel, Oranienburger Str. 67/68 in Berlin Mitte

Go and have a look if you are in town. Pity I won’t  be able to make it coz I’m still in Iceland ^^
